After more than two years of discussion, on March 16, 2020, the City Council of Crescent City adopted a City Ordinance that would allow for commercial cannabis activities within the city’s commercial areas, including the waterfront, as well as its highway service district.

The following commercial cannabis uses are allowed:

  • Storefront retail.
  • Non-storefront retail (delivery only).
  • Cultivation (indoor only) – maximum 2,000 sq. feet.
  • Non-volatile manufacturing.
  • Processing facilities.
  • Distribution.
  • Microbusinesses.
  • Testing laboratories.

On-site consumption of cannabis, outdoor cultivation and volatile manufacturing or manufacturing facilities using volatile solvents are all prohibited within Crescent City.

There are no numerical caps on cannabis licenses and the ongoing non-merit based application process is a “First Come, First Serve” Use Permit Application.

However, there are restrictions on licenses, such as that “only one use permit for commercial cannabis cultivation may be possessed or used by a person or entity, including the representatives, agents, parent entities, or subsidiary entities of that person or entity.

Businesses must keep 600 feet away from  schools and cannot advertise within 1,000 feet of a park, library or playground.

Under the City’s ordinance, a Crescent City commercial cannabis operator must obtain a conditional use permit, hold a $15,000 surety bond, submit a $1,000 deposit to the city and obtain active enrollment in the state’s track and trace program.
